Gifted, creative and highly sensitive children | Heidi Hass Gable | TEDxLangleyED
Being “gifted” often feels far from a good thing, when you’re the one living it. And yet the myth persists that “gifted” is an elitist and privileged label in education. That “those kids” will be fine without any extra programs or supports. After all, what’s the worst that can happen – they get bored? In reality, many of our most vulnerable learners are those “gifted” kids who know they just don’t “fit it.” In our rush to identify and label children for purposes of funding and organizing our educational services most efficiently, we’re missing the ground level, actionable and everyday needs of an entire grouping of needy kids. Our most gifted, sensitive and creative students are our canaries in the coal mine; they are more sensitive to the world around them and the reactions we see in them can teach us what our education system needs to be, believe, include and stop. As is often the case, what is necessary for some is beneficial to all. Heidi approaches our education system from multiple perspectives. First and foremost, she is the mother of three amazing, gifted, creative and/or highly sensitive children! Heidi also spent almost six years as president of the City of Coquitlam‘s District Parent Advisory Council, attending countless advisory committees and working to build relationships between parents and teachers. And finally, she has worked with many passionate educators as an edtech consultant – participating in technology planning, facilitating dialogue and implementing technology to support student learning, communication and relationship building. On our gifted children | Mira Alameddine | TEDxLAU
Gifted children are faced with a number of challenges because they engulf themselves in their own world and fail to meet the “norm” that society expects. What can parents and educators do about this? Mira Alameddine is a parent of two gifted boys; this prompted her to seek her Ph.D. in gifted education from the Doctorate School of Humanities and Literature at the Lebanese University and become a consultant and teacher trainer in the field. She’s the coordinator of the Gifted and Talented Program which she developed and is running at the LWIS-City International School in Beirut-Lebanon. She believes that gifted children, particularly in Lebanon, need assistance to thrive. And her ‘crusade’ now, is to provide them with the aid they so much deserve. For this reason, many gifted education experts have doubts about letting gifted students start college several years early. Gifted Children (2011) Documentary
Brought about by popular demand, we are proud to present the first documentary produced by P Susan Jackson of the Daimon Institute for the Highly Gifted. This is the first documentary we made in 2011 on Giftedness. We have also created a second documentary on the Experience of Being Highly-Exceptionally-Profoundly Gifted: RISE. These documentaries are intended to dispel prevalent myths about profoundly gifted people, especially school-age children. By donating to and supporting these documentaries you support our educational goal to help further knowledge of an oft-ignored minority of people whose way of living is fundamentally distinct from the norm and whose potential and drive to contribute to society is truly boundless.

הרצאתה של דר. חנה דויד, כישרוים חברתיים בקרב ילדים מחוננים" הוצגה בכנס האינטרנטי הראשון לשיפור ולחיזוק של כישורים חברתיים שערכו שירי ואייל רזנס ב-9-11.2.2016. הראיון, אותו ערכו שירי ואייל, מנפץ דעות קדומות רבות ומציג תובנות חדשות שעשויות לעזור להורים למחוננים ולאנשי חינוך, פסיכולוגיה וייעוץ שעובדים עם ילדים מחוננים.
